Invisible Addie Larue

Title: The Invisible Life of Addie Larue

Author: V. E. Schwab (White American woman, Wikipedia says she came out as a Lesbian)

Genre: Fiction

Book published: 2020 and Read: Fall of 2025

Don't remember why I started this book, but I read it via a PDF online, and ignored my schoolwork for two days while I sped through it.

Overall I thought this book was fine. It had a lot of good quotes, which I enjoyed, but also a lot of focus on romance, which I do not enjoy. Sadly it seems like almost every modern YA book has a romance plot, so that's just something I deal with on my reading escapades. Almost a year after reading, I remember feeling as though this book could've done more with such an interesting concept (the fact that everyone Addie meets forgets her after she leaves their sight), but I also remember there being a lot of cool flashback scenes which did exactly this (exploring how she got food, clothes, etc.) so who knows what I was actually thinking at the time. Something I loved was the fact that the handsome devil character- Luc- is rightfully viewed as horrible and abusive, rather than Addie forgiving him and falling in love because he's hot. I also really enjoyed the commentary about how humans live on in art, and the realistic approach to the tradeoff of Addie being immortal but having no human connections. I think Addie herself was less memorable to me than the curse itself, but that's not a bad thing. Similarly, I forgot almost everything about the male MC aside from his wish to be loved by everyone, but that's fine he served his purpose.
