Book reviews
Andy Weir

Title: Project Hail Mary

Author: Andy Weir (White man)

Genre: Science Fiction

Book published: 2021 and Read: Summer 2026

Reason for reading: Everyone was talking about the movie

Fully hopped on the bandwagon for this one cause the movie was getting so much hype. Also, I didn't get to look at it much because I read it via online PDF, but gorgeous cover art.

I think this is one of the best science fiction books I've ever read, due largely to the fact that I rarely ever read science fiction. I really enjoy how well thought out everything seems to be, it appears like this author did a lot of research, and that makes the book so much more intriguing. The way Rocky communicates, the fact that he (she? they?) breathes different air, astrophage being an invasive species, new batches of taumoeba growing resistant, the translucent octagon being there by mistake because Eridians don't have sight, the fact that Eridians built such a complicated ship but have no clue what radiation is because they've never experienced it- it's all super detailed. Plus, the alien species isn't humanoid, which is something I really enjoy.

I also liked the main characters. Rocky is very funny, and I don't have much more to say about him. Grace is funny, and I LOVE the reveal that he didn't want to sacrifice himself for the sake of Earth like- at all. Eva Stratt is probably my favorite character, because she's funny and does so many horrible things to save humanity. So intriguing. Also, did I mention it;s funny? Cause this book is very funny.
